The SCLC stands for "Southern Christian Leadership Conference". The goal was to advance civil rights movement in America but in a non-violent manner. "The Little Rock Nine" were 9 children; Minnijean Brown, Terrance Roberts, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Thelma Mothershed, Melba Patillo, Gloria Ray, Jefferson Thomas, and Carlotta Walls tried to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. The students were escorted day to day by armed officers.
In 1947, Jackie Robinson, 28, came up from the minor leagues to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Many people were against this, but many whites and blacks said it was an event that was LONG over due.
